Two days of mixed ultimate madness... one weekend in September. The 2008 Phoenix Has Risen State Mixed Titles were held on September 13th & 14th at UWA Sports Park. Nine teams competed in 2 divisions, a total of 488 goals were scored during 25 Games. Over 100 Players ate 200 Bread rolls, 16 loaves of bread, 8kg of salad, 8kg of fruit, 8kg of sausages and 5kg of hamburgers. This was the first time in the history of the event that a 2-division format was introduced; teams from the Social Ultimate League were invited to compete in this year’s state tournament. Competing in a one day round robin format were Rojo, Disco Inferno and The Ninjas. 2008 Division Two Results 1st The Ninjas Six teams competed in Division One this year, a participation increase of 44% compared to last year. Brown Chicken Brown Cow took honours this year in an exciting final against Black Sabbath. Both teams traded points in this amazing display of ultimate. Scores were locked at 14 all and two days of play were taking its toll on tiring legs. Brown Chicken Brown Cow set up a zone on their offensive end zone, the Black Sabbath handlers continued to move the disc around when John “JD” Damiani made an amazing layout intercept to score a Callaghan and take his team to victory. 2008 Division One Results 1st Brown Chicken Brown Cow Spirit: Murdoch A big thank you to the Phoenix Hot Squad for all their hard work over the weekend. Daniel Foucar, Alicia Wroblewski, Kara Kirk (TAFE Sport Development Students), Iris Jansen (ECU Sport Student) and Steve Baker formed the team who volunteered their time over the weekend to assist behind the scenes and help deliver a great tournament. A very special thank you to Steve Baker who gave up his whole weekend to ensure all games ran on time and the event ran smoothly. Steve played a vital role in the success of this competition. Special mention to Debbie Ng, Natalie Kippin, John Damiani, Fletcher Joyce, Julie Hardt, Christian Krogdahl, Jay Dowling and Kendall Thorn for their valuable contribution in the lead up and during the tournament.
