Joint Member Statement - May 2025

State and Territory Member Organisations of the Australian Flying Disc Association (AFDA) express their disappointment following the national body’s failure to submit timely bid applications to the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) for the 2026 World Ultimate Club Championships (WUCC).

This outcome represents a failure of governance and operational process. We acknowledge the significant time, effort, and dedication that athletes, coaches, and volunteers have invested in preparing for this event. We understand there is significant frustration in the community where people do not feel seen or heard on this and other important issues.

The state and territory flying disc associations across Australia want you, our members, to know that we:

  • support the call for an immediate and transparent review of the failures that led to this outcome and will be making our own statement to AFDA
  • will continue to advocate for policies and processes that reflect the trust, transparency, and professionalism expected at the national level
  • will continue to work together with AFDA to ensure the long-term confidence of our players, supporters, and community

The Spirit of the Game is an important and unique aspect of our sport, and all actions on and off the field should reflect this. We remind our community of the National Integrity Framework and Team Australia agreements. Breaches that occur under the National Integrity Framework may be referred for independent investigation by Sport Integrity Australia. Please contact us as your State Sporting Organisation (SSO) for more information or if you have further questions.

The SSOs have been and remain committed to working with the AFDA Board and AFDA Staff to work on the challenges and celebrate the successes and ask that the community join us in this commitment.

On the 29th of October, 2022, WAFDA conducted its AGM at Murdoch University.

The entire committee did some great work this year with special thanks to Emma Zandi, who stepped down as Secretary at the AGM, and Matt Streatfield, who stepped down as Treasurer earlier in 2022.

There were 2 positions open for election and here are the results of process:

General Executive - Ben Bastion, uncontested

Secretary - no candidates, vacant

WAFDA welcomes Ben to the executive and look forward to utilising his experience and insight in the coming year.

Attendees were given an outline of WAFDA's achievements this past year and a report on our financial position. A formal annual report including these key points with more detail will be released to the website shortly.

2022 Primary Schools Championships

2022 saw the first ever Primary Schools Ultimate Championships held.

The event, held at Yokine Reserve, was a great result for the sport with Carmel School, St Andrews Catholic Primary School and Woodlands Primary School all taking part in the inaugural event.

The day was filled with fun and skill with over 100 students taking part. The smiles on their faces were priceless as they battled it out for the title. As well as the great skill on display, fantastic sportsmanship was brimming on the surface as a key ingredient of what the sport is all about.
