Many of you will know Mike Neild. You may have played with (or against) him at a local tournament, Nationals or even World Championships. Mike is one of the finest competitors to be currently playing the game and a champion guy.

Mike was married to his long time partner, Stacy, in Montana after Vancouver World Champs in 2008.  In July this year Stacy Neild was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.

MND is a progressive degenerative disease of the nerves that communicate with the body's muscles.  It is a highly misunderstood group of disorders that are lumped together based on their mutual symptoms. In some cases people live for decades with slow and limited functional disruption, other people experience rapid degeneration and become bed ridden with no muscular control.

It is typically fatal within 3 to 5 years.

This is obviously a devastating blow for them both.  But Mike and Stacy are determined to remain positive and hopeful and fight it out together.

A few of us from Perth were working out how we can help out, so we are holding a 1 day tournament to raise funds to send Mike and Stacy to the US, with all profits going towards this end.

Mike and Stacy will certainly suffer financial hardship as they fight this disease.  They have already accrued significant medical and travel expenses, as most of the specialist treatment and diagnosis can only occur in Sydney.

We hope to see you at the event and show your support for a much loved couple of Australian Ultimate.
