Re:Womens Nationals Teams 2009 - 2008/10/21 20:40 Well, haven't I entered into a political storm. As the appointed coach to the Primal team I am surprised to read about so much indecision in our Women players.
My thoughts :

1. I thought all women would be invited to come along and train and try out for the "state" team /teams for nationals. I certainly would be looking to have 1 team (not club) with the strongest players available to be competitive at a national level, something we still havent achieved. I see any discussion about splitting into two clubs and poaching players between clubs as extremely disunifying to the sport, we would never become a competitive team at a national level if this continues (how many australian representatives has there been from the women in wa?) If there are enough keen, enthusiastic players we should be putting together as many other teams as we could to try to gain entry into the tournament and provided experience for future competitions. I cant believe that people are talking about splitting
between two club, this will undo all the hard work put in over the last 5 years to get this much interest with women in the sport.

2. Where is the input from the State Association into this process. Why is this argument being waged by individuals and not decided by the state committee with the involvement of all senior women players and interested parties.
I would invite the president and committee to play a big part in this decision making process, not leave this up to individuals alone.

3. I have represented wa in 3 different sports and each time the training, challenges and honour involved in just making the team where a large part of my sporting reward.

Enough already, this discussion needs to be resolved with the committee meeting with interested parties and deciding on a course of action including selection criteria which is in the best interests of representing Womens participation in disc in wa....
