Re:1 PUL game and playing later - 2007/10/11 14:41
Currently, PUL & SUL can not run concurrently as there is not enough field space (this varies throughout the year ie. demand is greater when its footy season etc). We could relocate, but WAFDA has worked hard to establish a working relationship with UWA Sports and new fields are extremely hard to secure. WAFDA has considered having the leagues on different nights but this requires players who play both leagues and administrators to sacrifice another night of their week. This is especially taxing to these people when men's/women's trainings are on as well (there are only so many nights in a week!). In any case, different league nights just means even less mixing between PUL & SUL. I agree that if you want to mingle with SUL players, then join their league, or turn up at 6pm to throw with them.
As for socialising I have to agree that WAFDA does not control where and when you socialise with other players on a weekly basis. I only play PUL. Sometimes I turn up at 6:30 and sometimes 7pm. Once I'm cleated I go around chatting to friends on sidelines or watch my friends play. If you go to the pub afterwards, you can get a dominos pizza for $5 and eat it at the Wembley (they have no problem with this once their kitchen is closed). WAFDA does realise the importance of maintaining the social aspects of Ultimate hence we try our best to offer social events at tournaments, disc golf days and the Xmas Party. These social functions need the support of all members to make them successful and worthwhile for WAFDA to provide (its not healthy for Anna to drink $1000 worth of free beer herself EVERY christmas party!)
A social committee is a great idea, if anyone wants to volunteer for it, we'll make a position for you!
