Mens Premier League - 2007/08/24 11:08 Following a reasonably successful Nationals campaign and now entrance into the 2007 National Ultimate Frisbee League it seems like a good time to really build on the momentum of elite Ultimate in WA for 2008.

Something I've clearly noticed is we have quite a few WA players that can hold their own against Australia's best and a bit more regular scrimmaging can only improve WA's overall standard of play.

Another driver I find is that we have a lot of men in Perth Ultimate League however we don't have the female numbers to really provide an adequate avenue to always play, so I ask myself could we alluviate some of this with a mens competition.

So a few questions I pose.

Would you play in a mens league? Would you prefer a hat format or organised teams.

Would you play a mens league over Perth Ultimate League or can you afford/make time for both?

Anyway I am a nut and would play Ultimate all the time so I would love to receive some feedback from others especially those that aren't involved in NUFL or Nationals.

Cheers

Re:Mens Premier League - 2007/08/24 14:43 Is it worth considering a format similar to NUFL - say holding a small number of one-day events where each team would play 2-3 games?

This format was tried a couple of years ago (WAUFL). Maybe there could be enough interest to try again.

There might be enough people who want to play an extra night (or day) per week, but there are some who definetely won't although they might make one day a month or so.

Re:Mens Premier League - 2007/08/27 14:49 Sure a tournament day may be a better option, and more realistic for nationals, western regionals play etc.

What was the format and outcome of the previous WAUFL competition?

Is two nights a week of ultimate too much for the average player?

What if the intial PUL of the year was two single gender competitions?

Re:Mens Premier League - 2007/08/30 11:07 For us uni types, I dont think that we can commit to to two nights of league. We already train 2x p/w for AUG, then League, then 2x p/w for Sublime! Thats 5 sessions already, to add another one to that would probably kill me.

Re:Mens Premier League - 2007/08/30 12:05 Eels - surely though after AUG and NUFL have wrapped up, you'll then have 4 nights free with nothing to do, and you'll be itching to play more Ultimate.

The important factor is that WAFDA takes other tournaments into consideration when scheduling a new league.

Re:Mens Premier League - 2007/08/30 13:09 i would definitely play a mens league, as long as there is some kind of competitiveness behind it, i wouldnt make the effort to play another night of ultimate to run around at half pace and watch people huck (although i like hucking)

i would prefer a game that was structured in the sense that we rans systems, or atleast a modified version of systems and that we went balls out as opposed to half arsed.

a thursday night would be cool, or after NUFL/AUG (which is only 2 weeks after NUFL 2) it could be on a monday and take over the training time.

Basically im heaps interested in playing real competitive ultimate as long as its not shit.
