Re:Women's Premier League? - 2008/05/14 13:58 Personally I would find it easier/enjoyable to play in a women's monthly tournament type game. Whether we play savage with modified fields and game time or proper length games and subs, no matter. With a set 4 month schedule, or so, I could book of the day and plan ahead. I would also be important to arrange the teams in a way that expereince and beginner players are mixed up together. I LOVE TOURNAMENTS

Although it's nice to play with players you know and are friends with it's also important (I think) to play with different players to develop new skills and and forge new friendships. I would be happy to have a few hat type tournies and pre chosen teams tournies (once we have had a chance to get to know people).

and that my 2 cents.

Re:Women's Premier League? - 2008/05/26 19:29 Results of survey taken at SUL last week...

Total surveys = 12 women

WEBSITE INFORMATION
6 have accessed WA ultimate website
4 have not accessed WA ultimate webite
2 have accessed AFDA website
of the 6 that accessed WA ultimate site, only 2 have briefly seen the DISCussion forum, and only 1 has seen this thread about women's ultimate

WOMEN'S LEAGUE
10 women would like to participate in a women's league, 2 of which would only if friends from the mixed team played as well
1 is a maybe
1 is a no (really just wants to play with the SUL team)
9 women would like the women's game to be part of wed night, along with a mixed SUL game, however those that are also playing in PUL (x 3) do not want to play 3 games on a wed night.
other nights of interest:
monday x 2
Thursday x 2
Any night x 1
Weekend x 2 (either day in afternoon)
Not friday x 1
Not weekends x 2

NATIONALS 2009
Only 2 women knew of Nationals being in Perth 2009
interest in playing for a WA women's team:
3 x yes
1 x depending on training
2 x maybe
4 x no
2 x not answered

Reasons for not wanting to participate in Nationals:
2 x not confident
2 x too busy with other commitments
1 x just not interested

OTHER NOTES
there is interest from some girls about joining in women's training/development
Ages ranged between 21 and 33
2 x would like to progress to PUL
4 x would like to progress to PUL in future when they've gained more skills
2 x no, just want to play social
1 girl found out about Ultimate and beginner league from the gumtree.com website (perhaps future advertising method??)
11 girls joined because a friend had introduced them to the sport.

So - although this survey was small, there is definitly interest in an all women's game/league, preferably run on a wednesday night.

Re:Women's Premier League? - 2008/09/19 15:47 Women want a premier league for the exact same reason that the men do. If the women's league is excluded from the 'premier' league and reduced to something of a level between SUL/PUL why on earth would i bother playing?

Sure, have something like that as well which recruites new players and gives a chance for the SUL players to bring it to a new level (maybe that of PUL), however what about all the women playing PUL (and more)who want to bring their playing to a new level as well? There is no where for us to go unless you offer us a similar league as the men, and there never will be any elite women in WA if people have the attitude that they do towards women's ulti.

I can't wait til we show everyone what we've got in the PERTH PREMIER WOMEN'S LEAGUE.

Re:Women's Premier League? - 2008/09/22 13:58 For some reason your post isn't appearing on here so i've copied and pasted it from my email:

If you actually cared about increasing the number of women playing ultimate and therefore increased the skill level of women's ultimate in WA, You would bother to play.
If however you don't care about raising the profile of women's ulti in WA, and therefore increasing the skill level, then don't play.
How many elite women players do we have in WA?? Maybe a couple who have played longer than just a few years. If elite women were only allowed to play, you wouldn't even have enough for 7-a-side for a game. Didn't realise we had the luxury of turning women away who want to play and develop themselves to be better.

REPLY:
I fully understand that we need to expand women's ulti in WA which is why i suggested also having another womens league for beginner/intermediate players, however sul and pul already offer a fantastic structure for these players to improve their skills.

I do not feel that it is appropriate to lump all WA women players into the same category therefore limiting where the top tier of them can go - we want to push our skills to the next level, and a more elite league would offer that opportunity. Just think, we already have 16 women from nationals last year who are probably keen for a competitive womens league. We have an opportunity at nats 09 to put in two competitive womens teams, but we need some structure to allow these women to develop.

May i also say that there are currently more people registered for the womens league (19 players!!!) than for the mens league, and with just two more people registering we would have enough for 3 teams of 7.

Anyway it's up to the league directors depending on how many people register, and how they want to create the teams, so not much point arguing really

Re:Women's Premier League? - 2008/09/22 14:39 Previous post wasn't mine - that's why it did not appear on the board.

Curious... who are all these players? Where all these women?
Women's leagues have been offered in the past and numbers barely gave the opportunity for a
scratch match.
Women's ultimate is a new level to PUL or SUL. It eliminates the male factor and all females have
to step up and be accountable, with much more focus on individual skill improvement.
If WA want to have 3 women's teams vying for a spot at nationals then league such as this needs
to be developed and supported by ALL players. If it is not supported then women's ultimate will not
grow and players will not improve.
We don't have the manpower to create several mini leagues so all efforts have to go into one league.

All seniors players should extend a welcoming and helping hand to any new and or developing
player on the WA ulti scene. All future elite players have to be given a chance as a beginners.
The premier league is the first of its kind for men's ulti here in Perth and they have been playing for decades. We need to establish a development pathway before we start being too selective.
Let the female player decide if they want to play women's ulti all that needs to be done is that there is opportunity for them to try it.
For players to develop they need to play with better players this is an ideal opportunity for new and developing players to do that. Any female player who has been to nationals or any elite development opportunity should be eager to assist in the growth and improvement of other female players. If you support women's ultimate then you want to be in this league and demonstrate how awesome the female talent is here in Perth.

It is extremely naive to belive we have enough elite women here in perth to sustain and exclusive
league.
