Re:Women's Premier League? - 2008/09/22 13:58
For some reason your post isn't appearing on here so i've copied and pasted it from my email:
If you actually cared about increasing the number of women playing ultimate and therefore increased the skill level of women's ultimate in WA, You would bother to play. If however you don't care about raising the profile of women's ulti in WA, and therefore increasing the skill level, then don't play. How many elite women players do we have in WA?? Maybe a couple who have played longer than just a few years. If elite women were only allowed to play, you wouldn't even have enough for 7-a-side for a game. Didn't realise we had the luxury of turning women away who want to play and develop themselves to be better.
REPLY: I fully understand that we need to expand women's ulti in WA which is why i suggested also having another womens league for beginner/intermediate players, however sul and pul already offer a fantastic structure for these players to improve their skills.
I do not feel that it is appropriate to lump all WA women players into the same category therefore limiting where the top tier of them can go - we want to push our skills to the next level, and a more elite league would offer that opportunity. Just think, we already have 16 women from nationals last year who are probably keen for a competitive womens league. We have an opportunity at nats 09 to put in two competitive womens teams, but we need some structure to allow these women to develop.
May i also say that there are currently more people registered for the womens league (19 players!!!) than for the mens league, and with just two more people registering we would have enough for 3 teams of 7.
Anyway it's up to the league directors depending on how many people register, and how they want to create the teams, so not much point arguing really
